QUARTERMASTER SUPPLIES

The 3rd Florida Company A maintains a supply of equipment and materials to support both new and current members. Our goal is to ensure that all weapons, uniforms, and leather goods are maintained in proper condition and ready for use at reenactments and living history events.

A $15 donation per event is requested for the rental of a Soldier’s Kit.

At present, the company has sufficient resources to provide up to 20 Soldier’s Kits if needed.

Please note: powder and percussion caps are not included with the kits.

Soldier’s Kits include:

  • Blue or gray blouse
  • Trousers (waist size required for proper fit)
  • Canteen
  • Haversack
  • Cartridge box and cap box
  • Musket with bayonet (Springfield or Enfield)
  • Shirt
  • Kepi

If you plan to attend an event and require a Soldier’s Kit, please contact Captain Dennis Short in advance with your waist size and anticipated arrival time.

Uniform Requirement

In order to standardize our appearance as a Confederate unit, the preferred uniform jacket is the Richmond Depot Shell Jacket.

Members who already possess a uniform kit are not required to purchase a new jacket unless they wish to do so. However, new members assembling their kit are encouraged to obtain this style.

First Lieutenant William Tindle III has acquired materials to produce these jackets in-house.

Black Powder

We currently maintain a supply of black powder for use at events.

  • Pre-rolled cartridges (40 per bag / ½ lb): $15
  • Loose powder (1 lb): $25

Members may purchase powder and roll their own cartridges if desired.

Preparing for a Reenactment

For those new to the hobby and requiring a Soldier’s Kit, preparation is important in order to have a safe and enjoyable living history experience.

At most events, participants will be exposed to outdoor conditions and aspects of period military life.

Recommended items to bring include:

  • At least two gallons of drinking water
  • Straw tick, cot, or inflatable mattress
  • Sleeping bag or at least three wool blankets
  • Food for two days (small cooler recommended)
  • Flashlight or lantern with candles and matches
  • Change of clothes and eating utensils
  • Leather shoes (black or brown — not included in Soldier’s Kit)
  • Toiletry kit (toothpaste, washcloth, towel, soap)
